What is Seysara and how does it work?
Seysara is a tetracycline-class antibiotic used to treat moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients nine years of age and older. It is taken once daily as an oral tablet. This medication is effective only against bacterial infections and will not treat viral illnesses such as the flu or common cold. Do not use Seysara if you are allergic to sarecycline or other tetracycline antibiotics, including doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline. Take Seysara exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, with or without food, but always with plenty of water. Complete the full course of treatment even if your acne improves, since stopping early can promote antibiotic resistance. Seysara increases your susceptibility to sunburn—wear protective clothing, a hat, and sunscreen, and limit sun exposure while taking this medication. Drink adequate fluids to reduce the risk of esophageal complications. Before starting Seysara, inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements you are taking. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately, as Seysara can affect fetal bone and tooth development and cause permanent tooth discoloration in the child. Do not breastfeed while using this medication, as it can pass into breast milk and affect your infant's bone and tooth development.
What side effects can Seysara cause?
Nausea is the most commonly reported side effect of Seysara. Other side effects may occur. For a complete list of possible adverse effects and more detailed safety information, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report any side effects to the FDA through their MedWatch program.
