8.1 Pregnancy Risk Summary There are no available data on the use of XEPI in pregnant women to inform a drug associated risk. Systemic absorption of XEPI in humans is negligible following topical administration of XEPI (up to twice the concentration of the marketed formulation) [see Clinical Pharmacology (12.3) ] . Due to the negligible systemic exposure, it is not expected that maternal use of XEPI will result in fetal exposure to the drug.

What is Xepi and how does it work?
Xepi is a quinolone antibiotic cream designed to treat impetigo, commonly called school sores—a highly contagious skin infection primarily affecting infants and young children. The active ingredient, ozenoxacin, works by stopping bacterial growth and preventing the infection from spreading. The medication is approved for use in patients aged two months and older. Xepi is applied topically as a thin layer over affected skin and is never taken by mouth. After application, wash your hands unless treating an area on your hands, then optionally cover the site with gauze or a bandage. Continue using Xepi for your full prescribed course even if symptoms improve, as stopping early increases the risk of incomplete treatment and recurrence. Consult your doctor if no improvement occurs within three days. Before starting Xepi, inform your doctor of any allergies to ozenoxacin or other ingredients, existing medical conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and all current medications (prescription, over-the-counter, and supplements).
